GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT – DESOTO GOLF COURSE

Full Time Position – Supervises and is responsible for all phases of maintenance and employee management of the golf course.  Requires an Associate Degree in turf grass management and at least 3 years experience as a golf course assistant superintendent overseeing the operation and maintenance of an 18 hole course, or equal combination of experience and education.  Must have basic management skills and the ability to communicate instructions clearly both written and orally, to train personnel, supervise employees and evaluate performances.  Applications or Requests for Transfers will be accepted through Friday, October 27, 2017. SUMMARY   Supervises and is responsible for all phases of maintenance and employee management of a golf course.  Requires valid Arkansas driver’s license and clean driving record with proof of liability insurance.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

  1. Supervision of golf course personnel in all golf course maintenance operations.
  2. Hire, terminate, train, and evaluate personnel administration of golf course personnel relative to golf course equipment usage, maintenance techniques and employee conduct.
  3. Preparation of the cost center annual budget and is responsible for the expenditure of funds within the guidelines of the approved budget and policies.
  4. Formulation and administration of annual agronomic maintenance programs for golf course greens, tees, fairways and roughs.
  5. Schedule and oversee major construction and improvement projects.
  6. Supervision of storage, handling, application and recording of all fertilizers and pesticides in accordance with local, state and federal laws and regulations.  Enforce compliance with all safety regulations.
  7. Wear and maintain all safety clothing and equipment as required.
  8. Maintain a valid Arkansas driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  9. Responsible for condition of equipment and work areas.
  10. Review tournament schedules as it may relate to maintenance activities. Coordinate with Golf Shop Manager relative to course condition, maintenance projects and schedules.
  11. Attend meetings as requested or required by the Director of Golf.
  12. Maintain a cooperative working relationship with staff and property owners.
  13. Maintain a valid pesticide applicators license in accordance with the state plant board.
  14. May be required to drive POA vehicle or personal vehicle while conducting POA business.
  15. Regular attendance is required.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES  The ability to communicate instructions clearly both written and orally, to train personnel, supervise employees and evaluate performances.

QUALIFICATIONS  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Must be able to work weekends and holidays and must be 21 years old or older.  Must have at least 3 years experience as a golf course assistant superintendent overseeing the operation and maintenance of an 18 hole course, or equal combination of experience and education.  Must have basic management skills.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE   Associate Degree in Turf Grass Management; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  A current Arkansas Pesticide Applicators Certificate for Golf Course Pest Control.

MECHANICAL ABILITY  Must have a good working knowledge of equipment maintenance and repairs.

REASONING ABILITY  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in non-standardized situations.
