Fitness Center Group Exercise Instructor

P.T. 10-20 hrs. per week.  Instruct and conduct exercise classes in a safe, professional and positive manner. CFC will train in CPR and Standard First Aid. SUMMARY

Appointed by the Fitness Coordinator or Coronado Fitness Center Manager with the approval of the Director of Lifestyle and Community Development.  Requires valid Arkansas driver’s license and clean driving record with proof of liability insurance.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  1. Deliver outstanding customer service, making every effort to accommodate their needs.
  2. Insure the safety of patrons and staff through accident prevention, enforcing all facility rules and regulations.
  3. Respond quickly to all emergencies in the facility and administer assistance.
  4. Have a thorough knowledge of rules and regulations with regard to the use of equipment.
  5. In order to perform required duties, employee must maintain a high level of physical fitness through a regular program of strength training and cardiovascular exercise.
  6. Create interest in health fitness and work effectively with the property owners in realizing their fitness needs through classes and individual workout programs.
  7. Have the knowledge of the benefits derived from exercise.
  8. Plan and develop programs and activities for adults and youth.
  9. Conduct classes in a safe, professional and positive manner.
  10. Maintain a safe, clean facility at all times.
  11. Report to Fitness Coordinator or Fitness Center Manager any class or safety materials needed or maintenance concerns.
  12. May be required to drive POA vehicle or personal vehicle while conducting POA business.
  13. Any other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  14. Regular attendance is required.
  15. Lifeguard duties may be assigned after qualifications.
  16. Train or assist patrons in the use of the exercise equipment and answer basic questions about the facility.

 

QUALIFICATIONS  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. CERTIFICATION

Certification in Group Exercise and/or Aquatic Exercise. Certifications in CPR and Standard First Aid.  Requires a valid Arkansas driver’s license and clean driving record with proof of liability insurance.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have interest in the health field.  Must have good public relations skills.  Must be willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays.  High School education.  Must have good interaction skills with property owners and visitors.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.  Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.  Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
