5k run and TRI-the-Village Sprint Triathlon, June 9 &10th

June 5, 2017

The 6th Annual TRI-the-Village Sprint Triathlon and first annual 5k, presented by Lefler Dental. The 5k (3.2 miles) is Friday June 9, at 7:00 p.m. at the Hot Springs Village Balboa pavilion. The USAT sanctioned sprint triathlon is scheduled for Saturday, June 10, at the Balboa pavilion in Hot Springs Village. The triathlon includes a 500-yard swim in Lake Balboa, a 13.5-mile cycle course over rolling terrain and ends with a 3.2-mile run.

The event is open to everyone – residents and non-residents alike. Not ambitious enough for the triathlon, register for the 5K event for an exciting sunset run.  Entry also comes with dinner.  All non-entries can purchase the dinner during the event.

“We’re expecting to exceed 180 participants for the triathlon and 50 runners for the first annual triathlon Sunset 5K,” said Charlie Brown, Lifestyle and Outdoor Recreation Manager.

Registration and management of the event is handled by DLT Event Management, Inc., of Arkadelphia with support from and in benefit of Teen Challenge of Arkansas, a non-profit organization. Athletes may register online at, which will link directly to the DLT website. Explore (Recreation/Tri-the-Village) for more information and last year’s event news.

Participants may register as an individual or as a relay team. Relay teams are two or three athletes who work together to complete all three sections of the triathlon. All athletes must have a USAT annual membership or purchase a one-day membership when registering.

Day passes are required for both participants and spectators. Awards for a variety of categories will be given including Overall Male/Female, Masters Male/Female, Grand Masters, Relay Teams, Physically Challenged and more.

Licensed massage therapists from the Coronado Fitness Center have volunteered to give complimentary sports massages to participating athletes. This will be a free five-minute massage. Athletes just need to sign up at the massage tent.

TRI-the-Village is a community event with a team of volunteers including individuals, local police and fire departments, medical coordinators and business sponsors including Lefler Dental (Platinum Sponsor), National Park Medical Center, HSV Home and Land Sales, Christ of The Hills United Methodist Church, CHI St. Vincent, RE/MAX of Hot Springs Village, Basecamp, AC & Shirley Independent Massage Therapist (Coronado Fitness Center), and Mt. Carmel Community.

Last year this event attracted people from 14 different states including Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, Indiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, California, Washington, New Jersey, Virginia, Minnesota, Illinois, Utah and Mississippi.
